House of Sharing

The Women's Comfort Home, known as the "House of Sharing" (or in Korean, "Nanum-ui jib"), is located in Seoul, South Korea. Founded in June 1992 with funds raised by various socio-civic groups and Buddhist organizations, the House initially opened in a dilapidated, traditional Korean-style rental house in Hyehwa-dong.

However, thanks to private funding and a generous donation of land from Buddhist entrepreneur Cho Yong-ja, the Home was renovated into a spacious modern complex and completed in December 1995. The comfort women were moved to the new building in the Seoul suburb of Gwangju, Gyeonggi in February 1996.

As well as being a residence for elderly women, the House of Sharing is also home to the "Museum of Sexual Slavery by the Japanese Army". This museum seeks to spread the truth about the Japanese army's brutal abuse of comfort women, and to educate future generations and the public.
