What’s Kangkangee ?
Kangkangee is a neighborhood located in the Yeongdo district of Busan, South Korea. It is known for being a former center of the shipbuilding industry, where the sound of shipyard hammers produced a characteristic "kang kang" noise. Although the neighborhood is no longer as active as it once was, it remains an important location for ship repairs. Thanks to an urban regeneration program sponsored by Busan's government, Kangkangee was transfromed from a declining shipyard into an artistic and cultural hub with a rich history.
깡깡이 마을이 뭐죠?
깡깡이 마을(Kangkangee)은 대한민국 부산 영도구에 위치한 동네입니다. 그곳은 망치로 배를 치는 깡깡소리로부터 명명되었습니다. 지금은 예전만큼 활동적이지 않지만 선박 수리를 위한 중요한 장소로 남아있습니다. 부산시 정부의 도시 재생 프로그램 덕분에, 깡깡이 마을은 쇠퇴하는 조선소에서 예술과 문화의 중심지로 변모하여 풍부한 역사를 간직하고 있습니다.
Kangkangee’s art
In an effort to revitalize the declining naval neighborhood, Busan’s government, locals and 29 artists came together to bring the streets to life through art. Murals, sculptures and workshops were installed all over the place. However, while Kangkangee is often presented as a successful renewal project, the reality is that the art installations are underwhelming for the few tourists who adventure into the area.
깡깡이 마을의 예술
쇠퇴해가는 해군동네를 살리기 위해 부산시 정부와 지역민, 예술가 29명이 모여 예술을 통해 거리를 변화시켰다. 마을에는 벽화, 조각품, 작업장이 곳곳에 설치되었다. 그러나 깡깡이 마을은 부산 내의 성공적인 도시 재생 프로젝트로 알려져 있지만, 현실은 이 지역을 관광하는 소수의 관광객들에게만 예술적으로 느껴진다고 평가되고 있다.
